San Felipe de Austin Commandery No. 1 is the oldest fraternal group in the state of Texas. The original charter went through the Battle of San Jaciento in a set of saddlebags and still survives none the worse for wear. The oldest Commandery (No. 1) meets at the Scottish Rite Temple in Galveston, TX and has counted among its members quite a few notable Texans and other soujourners.
